Caution:
- The IPCC Scenario A1B used to simulate temperature fluctuations due to climate change is only one possible scenario. Variations in emissions and other factors will undoubtedly influence the rate of climate change and the actual levels of water temperature increase we see. The dataset is only an approximation of one possible outcome.
- The model only considers temperature fluctuation based on climate change and historical trends to determine rates of bleaching. It does not consider other factors that may affect coral bleaching, like upwelling, coral predator species, or coral’s natural adaptation.
- The GFDL model is based on historical bleaching events. There is limited statistical data on mass coral bleaching events in remote coral communities. Accuracy of DHM rates for these regions may be biased and further statistical testing is required to confirm them.
