  • Data for production from subsistence and recreational fisheries, as well as for cross-border trade between some developing countries, may be incomplete, which may lead to underestimation of consumption.

  • Note that FAO's methodology for Food Balance Sheets changed for 2014 estimates and after, which may limit comparability pre and post-2014. For more information, see the source documentation here.

  • The Food from the Sea data on Resource Watch are distinct from the FAO indicators for “fish.” Importantly, the indicators displayed on the map include aquatic mammals, seaweeds and other aquatic plants and exclude freshwater fish.
