### Overview  
  
Relative change in crop yield shows climate projections for crop yield at the national and sub-national levels under different concentration pathways (RCP 4.5 and 8.5). Data is aggregated annually for either national or sub-national boundaries and depict changes in crop yield over time from 2015 through 2050. Changes in yield are compared to the reference period of 1986-2006 and are shown in percentages.

Understanding how climate change will affect crop yields is important for agricultural planning, food security, and global commodity flows. This dataset provides needed information on how climate change will impact yield under several emissions scenarios at the country and provincial levels and for near- and longer-term timeframes. The global economy is intimately tied to agricultural production, and this provides insight into future changes that will have impact on global systems.

### Methodology  
  
Input data for crop yield change uses greenhouse gas concentration scenarios derived from the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) framework, which was developed within the Coupled Intercomparison Modeling Project 5 (CMIP5) and is widely used in the climate modeling community. RCP 4.5 depicts an intermediate scenario whereas 8.5 represents a high emissions pathway. Other data is derived from the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISIMIP), which provides changes in biophysical systems and extreme events.
 
Climate projections for crop yield were modeled for different emissions scenarios from 2015 to 2100 and are compared against the baseline period of 1986-2006. Results show the annual average changes in crop yield over the area of interest (national/sub-national levels). Projections of future impacts to changes in crop yield are calculated assuming that socio-economic (population, land-use, etc.) factors remain constant at 2005 levels.
