Aqueduct Untreated Connected Wastewater
Measures the percentage of domestic wastewater that is connected through a sewerage system and not treated to at least a primary treatment level
Caution: Important sources of water pollution, such as industrial waste and agricultural runoff, were not included. Wastewater that may be treated on-site, such as with private septic tanks, was also not captured due to a lack of available data. In addition, the severity of water pollution, which depends on the magnitude of loadings of pollutants and dilution capacity of receiving water bodies, was not represented (Xie, personal communication, 2017). This indicator also does not account for all water pollution sources, as it is focused primarily on household connection rates.
Results were tailored towards large scale comparison of water related risks. The indicators have limited added value on a local scale.
